Wanted: Rescue & Adoption Stories
Attention all dog owners and writers: Urban Paws wants your funny and heartwarming rescue and adoption stories. We’ll choose the top 3 for publication in the May/June issue of Urban Paws. Entries should be between 200-400 words in length and submitted via email to: info@urbanpawsmagazine.com in a Word format. All submissions must be received by April 5th. Good luck!

I went to the cocker spaniel rescue just “to look”. Still grieving over the loss of Sassy, my 13 year old springer, I was not ready to adopt again. There were cockers everywhere, black, buff, chocolate, spotted, on leashes, in crates, some sleeping, some shy, some playing. But it was Cinnamon that captured my attention. Although smaller than most, she squirmed and pushed her way through the crowd to get to me. I bent to pick her up, and she nuzzled and licked me enthusiastically. When I put her down, she tried to follow me. How could I walk away from Cinnamon when she liked me so much and wanted so badly to go with me? That was 6 years ago. Cinnamon became Sydney (Cinnamon was just too difficult to call out). While Sydney could never replace my Sassy, like Sassy she became a member of my family. Later on I realized that Sydney greets everyone that comes into the house with the same degree of enthusiasm. I wasn’t the special one, she was. Now I tell people we rescued each other.
